This is one of my favorite new songs. Aren't we all adopted?? On Third Day's website they asked for adoptive families to send in a picture of their adopted children to be used during their concerts while playing this song--- sooooo, I thought, I can do this- ha! 3 kids and a camera and an adopted sign..... this is what I got! But we had fun..... and I sent two to Third Day! (I've tried to load the pics, but they won't load- going to try to load them seperately.) I am beginning to think there is something wrong with my blog- or maybe it's the blogger.....;)

Fancy Schmancey Dancey

Harrison had a dance to go to at his preschool. It was called the Fancy Schmancey Dancey- and I had the most handsome date! Mom's took their sons and Dad's took their daughters! I felt a little like a Jr. high kid again- but we had fun! I can't believe my sweet boy will go off to Kindergarten this August....:(

This pic. was a recent get together of our closest Ethiopian fellowship group.... and this happens to be one of Jillian's oldest girlfriend's! They go wayyyy back.... back to the orphanage and the same area in Ethiopia. We are blessed to have them so close.... God is good like that! :) Our good friend, Amber who was in line with us knitted our girls these adorable sweaters back before we even knew who they were, so we had to get a picture of them wearing them before they outgrew them!

Yesterday was our 5 month home mark- can't believe it, I've been working on our 6 month post placement report due to our agency that will go back to Ethiopia. I realized that Jillian has been with us longer than she was with her birth mother, and longer than she was at her orphanage, and even longer than she was at the Transition Home with her nannies.... so I am assured now that when she needs me now, that she knows deep down that I'm always going to be there for her! It's going good-- she is growing like a weed, working on her 8th tooth- 3 at once.... not so much fun.... and a cold at the same time. She walks with assistance, still easier to crawl. She will be 1 year old very soon- such a big milestone! I looked back at my day planner last year to see what I was doing that day, I usually write a little something.... but that day, there is nothing. That makes me sad, a little bit. It probably means I had a quiet day, the day she came into the world..... it's one of those things I'll never know.

We are having a continual issue with her skin on her face.... it's so dry here right now- and her face gets very chapped and then it breaks out.... I've tried everything, even Dr. recommended steroid creams..... my friend who knitted the sweater, lives in Cali- and her baby, same age.... is having the same issue- has recommended Jojoba oil, which happens to be the closest natural thing to our actual facial oils ..... I have some ordered, waiting for it to come in and hopefully be our miracle fix!

We've been stuck inside for 4 days now straight- I'm getting a little stir crazy- my hubby is using our only 4 wheel drive, his jellybean car got stuck, in the driveway...... I need Spring.... I like Winter, a little of it... then let's move on- I don't do well with the "cooped up" thing.... at. all.

I've been a bad blogger- not sure what to write sometimes, since the adoption is finished... but not sure I want to quit either.... we'll see what it turns into.... Stay tuned for some happy birthday jillian pics...... coming soon! :)

3 Months Home!!!

I can't believe that 3 months ago today, I arrived home with this beautiful, funny, happy little person in my arms! Now I can't believe there was a time when she wasn't here.... She is busy crawling, pulling up, having a runny nose lately, and needing me to be in the same room or the race is on to find me! She pulls cabinet doors open, likes to pull my cookbooks off of the shelf- I'm replacing some of the stuff down low, with things for her to do when we are in the kitchen, that seems like the time when she needs me the most. Lately, I've been thinking about how last year at this time, she was growing bigger in her birth mother's tummy- I wonder if she was excited about having a baby, or if she knew at that time she wouldn't be able to keep her.... She has such a funny little sense of humor, did she get that from her? These are things I would love to know, but never will. She really is an angel! I love the way she belly laughs when you tickle her feet or play peek-a-boo.... As the Christmas approaches, things are different this year- our kids aren't expecting a bunch of presents under the tree, they are learning that there are more important things and we've already received the best gift this year!! We are going to enjoy her every second! It's going wayyyy to fast! I need her to stay small for just a little longer! Enjoy this season of Love!!!

I think about it and miss it every day! I will never be the same. I'm also thankful for my friends! New and old..... God knows who we need in our lives at the perfect times! 9 Months old!

Our sweet little munchkin is 9 months old today! I can't believe how much she has changed already. Working my way out of a rough spot, taking it day by day, I watch her every day and realize how much I love taking care of her- I don't think I realized this as much with my tummy babies. Don't get me wrong, I was thankful, but younger and probably took it a lot for granted! In the morning, when we hear her stirring through the baby monitor, Isabelle and Harrison race to greet her; and she is waiting for them with this huge smile! She never cries in her crib- she just lays there, content. It makes me think of how she probably spent lots of time in her crib.
Now- you can tell she drinks up the love and affection..... you hug her and she hugs you back, nuzzling into your neck and she says, "awwwww"- it's the sweetest thing ever! Melts my heart every time! She is starting to crawl all over the place! This phase is going by WAY too fast! Slow down!!!

in a bit of a funk...

First of all let me begin by saying that I have SO much to be thankful for, especially this year!

I would say we are pretty much "settled" in to our new routine. It's hard for me to share my feelings, especially when they aren't good feelings. I've been in a bit of a funk lately.... not sure why really- maybe because all of the adrenaline from the adoption process is gone, maybe because my hubby is working ALL the time to finish paying off our adoption.... things are really tight and will be until we get it paid for, that cramps my style. I'll admit it. All of these things combined make me grouchy....

I'm also trying to learn how to deal with a situation in my extended family that is ongoing..... I love my mom, but I don't have the support or help that I wish for..... I've always wanted my kids to have grandparents that loved to have the kids over all the time, etc..... mine consider it "babysitting" and think that is all we want out of them.... which couldn't be further from the truth. So they don't get to go often, rarely giving us a break! This isn't a new thing, but it is something that keeps coming up as a problem...... and I really don't know how to change it, so I am trying to just accept it. I do know that I want to be a different kind of parent and eventual grandparent. I love my parents, don't get me wrong, but we just don't see eye to eye on this subject. I guess by putting it out here in bloggyland- I would love to know other opinions on this, advice??? I think this is also contributing to the "funk"- It's something that I just don't understand and frankly it continues to hurt my feelings- Praying to get out of the funk and SOON!

On another note: Jillian is 95% crawling...... and has two teeth, working on a 3rd! Still sleeping all night, every night- she is a dream baby, I tell you- such a joy! So thankful for that, and the rest of the family has mostly stopped acting out for the wrong kind of attention---- so on that note, that is great!!

Our Ethiopian Fellowship group met at the pumpkin patch last weekend- so fun! Until the last half our hour until home, Jillian let loose crying and wouldn't stop, and I was driving- hate that!

One month ago today, the sweetest blessing was placed in my arms, "for keeps" in Ethiopia. I can't believe it's been one month. So many new experiences for us all- we're all still adjusting, loving almost every minute of it- Craig says," she was born for our family"- We are amazed at how God works! He made her just for us, it's really just an awesome, amazing thing- and I'm so glad to be given this gift! I still look at her and cannot believe she's here! That she is our baby- I just want to eat her up- she is the purest joy! We are so in love- I watch the kids with her, even Harrison will just kiss her cheek, melts my heart! Then there is Craig- he loves her so much- and Jillian already looks up to Isabelle. I always wanted a sister- glad my girls will have each other! Even though we are all tired- she has brought a special light into our family- a sparkle! She is special! Can't wait to see what God has in store for her- on the other hand I want to freeze these moments in time so I can always remember her sweet little baby self!!! Love it!

Settling in....

It's been a little while since I've written.... I am finding it kind of hard to find time to blog- seems someone needs my attention!

The adjusting is going well- Isabelle seems to be affected the most. She has all of those first born female personality traits and is having trouble sharing the attention. Hopefully she will get used to things soon.... if that is the worst problem we have, we can deal with it.

Harrison is great, he just goes with the flow- really!

The parents are both tired..... I forgot what it's like to not get anything done around the house, it bothers me.... but I have to relax and look at that beautiful toothless grin staring back at me and none of it matters. She sleeps through the night most nights or wakes up once..... she is happy most of the time, loves to eat, loves to be held and talked to- she is happiest when she is in a group of people or when Isabelle and Harrison are messing with her!

I still look at her sitting in the middle of our living room and I can't believe the gift we've been given! The word that keeps coming to mind is Thankful.... got all the reports back from her Dr. visit- everything is great, she had an ear infection, that's it! She is a happy, joyful, smily, chubby, funny, beautiful blessing! Oh, the sense of humor this girl has- I can't believe she's only 7 months.... she is so funny and will laugh right back at you about things. I love the way she gazes into my eyes.... and she'll hug you and say "awwww" and pat your shoulder, like I do hers.... so funny! She waves at everyone, is gaining leg strength, she likes the exersaucer, loves to be outside, loves refried beans and bananas..... I could go on and on! I feel overwhelmed a lot, right now I am just doing the things I have to do- trying to get in a good routine. It's odd for the process of the adoption to be over- we spent so much time praying for the little details of the adoption. I am now praying prayers of thankfulness- We feel so blessed. 7 Months

I can't believe how far this girl has come in her 7 months! Today she is 7 months old! One month ago, I sobbed for her, wanting her here so badly, feeling like she would never be here. I feel SO thankful! My heart is full and we are all falling so in love with her and her with us.
She is such a happy little baby. Even with an ear infection- she loves being around people and she likes to "joke". I am serious- she will laugh about something and then anticipate you doing it again and will belly laugh about it. It is so funny!

Adjustment is going smoothly. Our 7 yr. old, first born is learning how to share the drama spotlight..... ready for the new normal to set in. This week was hard- good but hard. Lots of people want to meet her and we are so thankful for all of the open arms! She loves it- It has been hard this week taking care of everyone and being jetlagged.... here's to hoping next week will be a little more "normal"- if there is such a word. She wakes up with a big smile on her face- it is so refreshing and I am loving being her momma! She fits right in! God knew just who we needed in our family- he's so good like that! So, so thankful!

HOME

We arrived at the airport, Friday night around 8:30 to a crowd of friends and family! I didn't expect it really- it was awesome to know how much love and support surrounded our precious girl! She was a champ! She is so social and loved every minute of it, until she got tired and then she just went to sleep in my arms! She was great on the 32-plus hour trip home, after a 8 hour layover in Amsterdam! She slept and loved being held by me the whole time- my back hurt so bad, but it was WORTH it!
After visiting for a little bit, we headed for home- she fell asleep in her car seat and then she went right to bed when we got home. I must confess, at night we are letting her sleep with us and we all love it! She sleeps great! She woke up around 3am and had a bottle and then woke up around 6am or so- and that seems to be her pattern- can't complain! I love how she will turn toward you and just curl up in her sleep! Saturday, we continued with the fundraiser sale- and had lots of visitors.... Sunday, family came and brought dinner and fell more in love with "sweet cheeks"....Monday- just rest and prepare for the week of getting into our new routine. I had a nap! Then I was more tired. Today was our first day of "normal". It went pretty well, except when it was time for an afternoon nap- it was time to go do school pickup and she didn't really want to stay asleep- so tonight she was deleriously sleepy, almost giddy- just laughing and giggling and finally passed out on me! Sometimes she makes sounds and gestures that are so familiar to me, like I have known her before... probably just baby stuff- maybe similarities between my other babies. I am loving it! She is so sweet and happy and laid back!
I took her outside today to sit in the grass- she had never done that before, you could tell. She didn't know whether to laugh or cry- she just looked at me- it's going to take some time and I know she'll love it! Tonight was a little crazy, thank goodness for my crock pot- she was tired, didn't want to be put down- Harrison was "starving" but not for what I cooked, Isabelle had dance- let the chaos begin! My hubby says," do you think if we did this again, we would get one as sweet as her?" I couldn't believe it- who knew that he had even thought of it? I guess we'll see- she is such a jewel and I love her like she was made in my own womb- I can't believe it but I do! She is such a wonderful miracle! I know God made her just for us and we feel so blessed and thankful! She's perfect in every way!

She's coming HOME!!!!

We GOT THE CALL!!!! We are officially cleared by the US Embassy to come for our appointment to get Jillian's Visa next Monday, Aug. 30! My dad and I are leaving this Friday, in 3 days!!!!! We will be home WITH HER on Friday night, Sept. 3! I can't even believe it right now! I am SO happy! I even found tickets that were cheaper than the first time we went and I don't have to go through Chicago, which is a huge blessing in itself! I am So thankful right now- We get to go with 3 other families that were there before for court with us- so happy to get to see them again! Please pray that everything goes smoothly for us and that Jillian is just fine on the travel home, I'm nervous about that-

Praying

We're praying we hear something tomorrow about our embassy date. I'm getting doubtful that we will get to go next weekend for the appt date of Sept. 1. Maybe I don't want to get my hopes up. I will post as soon as I know anything- If you read this and have any extra time, please say a little prayer for us. It's really getting hard to wait. I just feel like she needs to come home! I've been stocking the pantry and freezer and trying to get things ready for me to be gone and then home again with a baby! So exciting! If we don't get to go for Sept. 1, surely it would be Sept. 15- so the end is still in sight! Trying to have a good attitude!

Morning sickness!

Yesterday it started.... the nauseous feeling in the pit of my stomach, especially when I look at her pictures! Yesterday- the day I found out that our paperwork hasn't even been submitted yet to the US Embassy! Maybe I was wrong to assume that it should have been. Our court date was July 21- I thought for sure it would have been submitted within two weeks of that date- by Aug. 4.... We obviously didn't make it for the Aug. 18 embassy date, honestly I didn't think we would- or we would be packing frantically! I did think however, we would have a STRONG chance for Sept. 1- I can make it until then..... if I have to wait past that date- frankly- I might die! That is the part that makes me want to puke! And cry!
My wonderful hubby made a little call and we did find out that our paperwork would be submitted by August 18- but with a "small possibility" of getting in on Sept. 1 for embassy- just typing it makes me want to throw up! If the end of August comes and goes and we don't have a "date", you might want to check on my hubby and kids here at home, because I'm on the next plane to Africa! Seriously, people..... I just can't let it go on---- and on! I'm already devising my strategy, and it just might work... I'll let you know! PLEASE pray that we get in on the 1st of Sept.... I am GOING TO GO INSANE if we don't! It will just be better for everyone! I assure you! In the meantime, I will just keep watching the snippets I have of her- and keeping some lemon juice and smelling salts nearby- blah!

Well, we're ready!! We have diapers, clean bottles, clean clothes- now all we need is that embassy date to get Jillian's visa! The next date is August 18th. It *could* happen that soon, but I really don't expect it to happen until Sept. 1. If it does happen Aug. 18, we probably won't have much notice- which means higher prices for plane tickets. I don't want to wait any longer than I have to, but cheaper tickets would be nice! My dad is getting ready- I can't wait to show him Ethiopia and introduce him to Jillian! I can't believe that the next time I see her, its FOR KEEPS! I don't think I will ever put her down! I miss her so badly- Our family is all spread out..... it's just not right! Thank goodness it's a busy time of year! School starts on the 18th- so it will be nice to get everybody in their new routine and then off to bring home baby! I can't wait to see how she will adjust to being here- I know she's going to love the kids and the kids are going to LOVE her! Stay tuned!

Recap of Court trip week in Ethiopia-

We arrived Saturday evening, July 17, 2010. It was around 9:30 when we finally got through immigration and back to the Yebsabi Guest House. After being greeted by our welcome wagon, Missy and Amber, we went to bed!

Sunday, July 18- We went to church with the group and my cousin and her kids. We ate lunch at the art gallery, Makush and then off to the transition home to MEET Jillian!!! What a special moment in our lives! We will never forget this day!

Monday, July 19- Jillian in the morning at the transition home, Lucy's restaraunt for lunch, and then shopping at the post office stores and Africa Silver.

Tuesday, July 20- Jillian in the morning, Metro Pizza for lunch, then Kaldi's for some macchiato's (they drink these after meals) I like this tradition- and they cost like 50 cents! Then to the coffee factory tour and later in the evening the traditional Ethiopian dinner (and show) at 2000 Habesh Traditional Dinner and Show.

Wednesday- COURT DAY! Court in the morning, which took all of 30 minutes or so, our part took 2 or 3 minutes, max! Then to the transition home to meet the birth families. We met Jillian's birth mother- very emotionially draining day! Makush for lunch then back to the transition home for more time with Jillian. Then to Boston Spa for a 10$ massage and 5$ mani!

Thursday and Friday July 22 and 23- Trip to Awassa (5 hours south) to visit the Shalom Childrens Hope Orphanage. This was Jillian's orphanage for a short while! We also saw monkeys, Lake Awassa, rode in Bajaj's, went to the World Vision office there, went to the Haile Resort (famous Ethiopian runner's resort) and on Friday visited Wondo Genet, the mountain oasis village that is the town closest to where Jillian is from. We did get to see Jillian late Friday for an hour- Thank goodness!

Saturday, July 24- Shopping, Blue Tops for lunch and then left late for the airport and arrived home Sunday afternoon- and am STILL jetlagged

I just wanted everyone to know we made it home this afternoon- I wasn't able to get into my email to send info to my blog after Tuesday- So I need to catch up on our days in Ethiopia- what a wonderful adventure it was.... so bittersweet to come home without our girl... hopefully very soon- I can go get her forever! After I catch up a little- I will fill in the blanks on our trip- and add some pics! There is so much to process- I don't want to forget a thing I saw or experienced there- Praying now for a fast embassy investigation and CHEAP tickets to go back and get her- right now plane rides sound like the least fun thing!!! Came home to my kids both sick with stomach distress..... made me sad I wasn't here- hard to be torn between continents- we need to all be together- right now we all need SLEEP! More soon, I promise!

Fun Day!!

We started out our day with breakfast and an orientation meeting about court with Duni, the AWAA director here Africa. The meeting covered what would happen in court on Wednesday. Around 10:30 we headed over to the transition home to visit Jillian. First we got to take pictures for the Daus family who was meeting their son for the first time- so neat to be on the other side of the camera, too. Then we just walked right to Jillian's room. There are 13 other babies just in Jillian's room alone- so many precious faces! I asked the nanny about her pox, she said the nurse had looked at her earlier and the Dr. was coming later, maybe tomorrow I can talk to him. They aren't horrible and she doesn't seem to bothered by them. I picked her up and we headed outside to the porch. We spent most of our time there. We played with toys, took turns holding her and then her little eyelids started getting heavy and she just laid her sweet little chubby cheek down on my chest and went to sleep.... she is heaven sent, let me tell you! I cannot believe how soft that girl's cheeks are! The nanny brought us a 6 oz. bottle of formula and when she started stirring I gave it to her, she looked straight into my eyes and held on to my finger. I can't describe how it feels to hold a baby God made just for you from all the way across the world- it is miraculous! After her nap and her tummy was full..... we got her laughing by tickling her jawline and chin..... she laughed out loud!!!! Made a little sound like, "Keeeeeeee"- so sweet! At 1:00 we had to take her back to her room and leave to go to lunch.

We went to Lucy's for lunch next to the National Museum where "Lucy" the skeleton is kept. Maybe we will get to go there later. The food was good- I had a Indian basmati rice dish with chicken and Craig had spicy ravioli. After that we watched a traditional coffee ceremony where they roast the beans before your eyes. The coffee is very good- Then we went shopping- today I found some traditional dresses for my friend's daughter, B, back home and for Jillian, also some souvenirs for gifts.... and best of all two silver crosses identical to each other; one for Isabelle and one for Jillian- for a special occasion in their future....

Then we headed back and chatted in the lobby- The Sherburne family was getting ready to leave, its sad to see them go. They will be back for their embassy date maybe at the same time we will- great new friends!! Also, my friend Missy- got an expidited embassy appointment for her sweet baby to come home as soon as possible, she has some serious health issues. To have this happen was NO easy feat. They just don't do it- it WAS a miracle! So awesome- so she will be home with her by Thursday!!! Praise God!

Around 7:30- 6 families went with Robel (our travel coordinator) to an authentic Ethiopian restaurant- You sit around a MESOB (a basket like table) and you only use your right hand, no utensils.... they come around and wash your hands for you. It was AWESOME! The whole time, there are singers and AMAZING dancers- I will post pics later- I can't get them to load from here- One of the beautiful girls got Craig to get up and dance- I could not believe it- he stepped WAY out of his box tonight! It was SO MUCH fun!!! Amber and I enjoyed some honey wine- which is a tradition Ethiopian drink made from fermented honey- it was good. I have never laughed so much in my life- these dancers can MOVE now!!! They do this shoulder roll, it looks like their shoulders are disjointed- and the girls are SO pretty! I'm not sure what is on tap for tomorrow- we are supposed to get our itinerary tomorrow. I have learned it's kind of like Mexico here- nobody gets in any big hurry- they just enjoy their lives and smile a lot!!! I love it! More tales tomorrow- court date is getting closer!

WOW!!!! I'm going to try to post every detail, because I don't want to forget a thing! We woke around 7am to a rooster, dogs, a cat and singing-like chanting (think it was a muslim call to prayer)- anyway it was something I'll never forget! We were pleasantly surprised to both get hot showers! Then down our 4 flights of stairs (in high altitude) to breakfast. Our chef, David is ethiopian. He makes this flat crescent roll type bread pancake (that is the best I can describe it) and it has honey on it, also sweet breads, yogurt and bananas and fresh Ethiopian coffee (yum) and fresh pineapple juice..... he also makes omelettes on request, which we tried and they were super delish!

At 10:30 our driver, David ( a different one, very nice man) picked us up with all the other families to go to the International Evangelical Church. It was AWESOME! A guy from Memphis actually did the sermon and we sung some of the same songs we sing in church, contemporary ones. My cousin, Allison and her kids met us there and we got to visit- and I got to bring them some goodies from the states. They live in northern Ethiopia as missionaries. So good to see them! Then they had to leave. We went to an art gallery called Makush; also a restaraunt..... we had veggie spring rolls and Craig had Lasagna and I had a squash ravioli, pretty good- big Italian influence here in the food. After lunch..... we headed over to the Transitional Home where the babies live. Our agency has two homes here, one for babies and one for the older kids. We drove through a gate, and parked and then they brought babies to each family giving each family enough time to record it properly- we had 3 different photographers and a video being taken..... I started feeling so shaky and teary...... and Craig said, "I feel like I might throw up!" He didn't- but our nerves were running wild! They brought her out and I really thought I might drop her, my hands were shaking... We got to spend about an hour and a half with her. I didn't even think we would meet her until Monday so this was an extra blessing! She does have some chicken pox, :( the nanny said since yesterday... I pray they go away as fast as they came! She is so mushy and soft and cuddly, just like I thought she would be...... not as long as I thought- so pretty, happy , sweet and content- she never fussed a bit! We played with some toys with her and walked around outside looking at the trees and flowers..... and just thanking God! Then it was time to go- so I took her back to her room, we put our picture of our family holding her picture on her crib- hope she looks at it a lot! I heard Craig tell someone that he "knew" she was ours before, but when you really see them for the first time...... well it is just so surreal! I feel so happy and blessed and thankful!

There are lots of families staying in the same guest house as us, its been an extra blessing to get to spend time with like minded people who love this place and its beautiful people! We will never be the same, that is for sure-

Please pray for our court date on Wednesday- we need to pass so we can bring her home, in possibly 4 weeks!!! More tomorrow......

We were out of the airport in Addis around 9:30 Sat. night. David, our driver picked us and all of our backage (YAY) and took us to the guest house. Our welcome party of Missy B. and Amber B. and hubby were waiting for us! What a great welcome!! We have a suite- it has a little kitchen, living room and bedroom on the 4th floor- . I never thought I would be cold here, but its morning already and I'm a little chilly-

We awoke to the chanting music of some religious group. I want to think they are Christians- they could be. This nation is at least 60% christian. You also hear dogs, cats, an occasional car alarm or music coming from cars and you constantly smell smoke- guess its probably smog- it is really kind of a "homey" smell if that is possible. Our first night, we instantly fell asleep... with help of over 30 hours of travel and a couple of tylenol pm- Today we get to go with our group to the International church here- then to lunch with our group where my cousin and her kids are going to join us hopefully and then from 2-4, WE GET TO MEET JILLIAN!!!!! It's finally here and I am so thankful- I got tears when we were landing thinking we are in the same city finally as our child! We are 8 hours ahead of Missouri time! More later- thought I would see if this sending email to the blog would actually work!

COURT DATE!!!!!

We got the LONG anticipated call today!!!! We have an official court appearance date! It IS JULY 21st which just happens to be my momma's birthday. So this means we get to leave next Friday, the 16th and come home the next Sunday, 25th.... all of you creeps out there- there WILL be people in our house! So don't get any creepy ideas!

Needless to say; THANK YOU for your prayers! However we aren't out of the woods yet- We have to PASS court first-
Please pray specifically for:
1. The letter from Ministry of Womens Affairs to be complete and in court on the 21st.
2. Birth mother present in court.
3. Our testimony in court.
4. The judge finds favor and passes us on the 21st! If so, she is legally OURS!
Then the wait begins for the Embassy's role in this- which could take 4-12 weeks..... when my dad and I will return to pick that girl up!!! I am praying for the first week of September......

There is something so neat that proves that God's timing is PERFECT: My friends, Amber from California and Missy from near here- who the three of us have followed and supported each other throughout this whole process- we are going to get to all three meet in person in Ethiopia- how cool is that? We will only be there all together for a couple of days- but I'm hoping we can all three go to church in Ethiopia together to Praise the Lord for what he has done! Isn't that just so neat?

Another thing; we got the monthly update on Jillian today; she weighs 15 pounds!!!! She will be 5 months old on the 10th. They say she hardly cries, eats 5 oz. basically every 3 hours, except at night and is up once in the night to eat. I love knowing all of these details! She takes a morning and an afternoon nap! I love the structure they give her- I just got back from Walgreens picking up an 8x10 picture to hang above her crib of our family holding her picture! I hope she grows to recognize us..... Two weeks from tomorrow- hopefully she will be ours forever!!!

Sad. Blue. Weary. Tired. Teary. Grumpy. That's me lately. Trying not to be, but I am. Can't help it. Thankful people are still praying. I am still praying too, but don't feel like it is helping.
I emailed the gal from our agency for third time this week, today about why we haven't heard about our court date yet. She called me around noon. No real reason, just one of those things.... I personally think the court office misplaced our "file"- because there are other families who got court dates today whose paperwork was submitted after ours. I don't know, none of it makes sense. This is the part of adoption that excuse my language, just SUCKS! I want to go. Now. I can't help it, my heart hurts. I need to go and be there. My baby is there and I am here. I am to the point where I am sick of looking on the computer to see if I got an email.... I don't want to think about it anymore until I get the call of the date. The hard part, is that it is all I think about.
Anna did say that we should expect to get a court date towards late July to Mid August..... BLA! Closer and closer to the closing of courts...... my worst fear. Please keep praying for our case and me and my attitude.... it's just not good right now. I really thought I would be traveling sooner than that....

Well, we are still waiting to hear when we will go for our court date! I am mentally and physically so ready- I would be ready to go tomorrow!!! But, God says.... wait. I just keep trying to remember this, "God makes everything beautiful in HIS time." This is what is written on a little thing that sits on an easel sitting on a table right by my favorite chair, where I read and sit while on the computer most of the time. It helps to read it. But I am human, and my human self wants the call 5 minutes ago and I want to leave tomorrow! I CAN't wait to hold our baby! I want to touch the cheeks I have heard about from so many others and the fat little legs and look into the smiling eyes! I can't wait to share her pictures here! The visiting families she has had tell me she is already wearing 9 month clothes.... and only 4 months old, she IS one of my children! I think my kids are wondering if this will ever happen.... Harrison wanted to sleep with the "baby Jillian doll"- it's the softest little brown baby doll- I couldn't help but take his pic.- even though it is pink! We are waiting on an update on her health, growth, development, a few new pics, etc. from our agency any day now... families usually get them at the end of the month- I will share when I receive it. I am trying to remain focused on life here.... but it is HARD! my heart has a space in it that will only be filled when I hold her for the first time!!! Better yet, when we bring her home! Please keep praying that we hear soon and that we pass the first time! Then, hopefully 5 weeks later we can bring her home for good!

Today we got the email we've been waiting for! Anna from our agency told us that ALL of our documents, including Jillian's birth certificate that we have been awaiting, were submitted to Ethiopian court at the end of last week. We will hear when our court day will be within 1-2 weeks. She said court dates were currently being scheduled for early/mid JULY!!! Two other families with referral dates close to ours got court dates for next Friday, July 2..... SO.... this means we could go to court as soon as July 5!!! WOW..... The neat part about this, is our friends, The Belote's also got the SAME email!!! We SO want to travel with them and it is such a good possibility.... so we are going to start packing! Please pray we pass court the first time! We could be meeting our sweet girl in less than two weeks! Sunday night our agency chat group held a prayer vigil online... it was such a sweet experience.... we lifted up every part of this process for all of the families with our agency, AWAA.... well, all I can say is: PRAYER CHANGES THINGS!!!! Thank you, Lord!!!

First of all, we had a very informative conference call yesterday concerning why we haven't received a court date yet. For the people now having to travel to Ethiopia for to appear in court, that would be us.... they now have to have a birth certificate to submit to court with the other paperwork to get a court date. This is what we are waiting on right now. They have all of the other paperwork needed for Jillian's case, just waiting on her birth certificate.... please pray they get it fast! Then they will apply for a court date, when they get one, they will tell us and we will prepare to travel for our first trip, which will be about one week. Please also pray we pass the first time. 50-60% of people pass the first time. The ones who don't pass usually pass within a few weeks. After we pass court, paperwork is gathered and submitted to the US Embassy- they will decide if there will be an investigation about Jillian's individual case. If no investigation is needed, we will go 5-6 weeks after passing court, if investigation is needed we will go 10-12 weeks after passing court. There you have it in a big nutshell! So, we need to get a birth certificate and we need to pass court!!!
We have had a busy start to our summer..... lots of staying up late and sleeping in! Lots of Softball and T-ball playing, swimming, trampoline jumping, basically whatever we want to do when we want to do it- "FUN having"--- This is the last time I get to spend with just Harrison and Isabelle..... so we are living it up! We have sent our very first care package to Jillian via another family who will be traveling in the next few weeks. They are taking a professional photographer with them and they are going to be taking some pictures of Jillian for us and I can't wait to see them!!! I just about have the two referral pictures we got worn thin! I want to see more so badly. This week we might get some more from a gal who just returned from Ethiopia from picking up her son- I am so anxious to see how she looks different from the referral pics. We were notified this past week by email from our agency that Jillian had a upper respiratory tract infection and since had completed antibiotics and was doing better. There are so many things that go around the transitional home between children, such as chicken pox. Please pray for all the babies and their health. It is very hard to be here and have her there and the only and most important thing we can do is pray for her.
I went to Babies R Us the other day and I can't believe the new baby products they have even since Harrison was a baby. It is so exciting. I got to buy some new clothes- being a little cautious because I don't want to buy the wrong size,not knowing exactly how fast she will grow and when we will bring her home. Hopefully in another week we will know when our court date is.... expecting it to be at the end of June or early July. Please pray for us to have a fast court date that we pass the first time- so we can go get that sweet baby! When we pass court, there will be pictures of her all over the place!!!

Mother's Day

I'm so glad that I've been given the gift of motherhood! I can't imagine what it would be like not being a mother. We've had a great weekend. Saturday, Isabelle and I went to the Fancy Nancy tea party at the library with some friends. It was fun with just the girls. Then our family went to a movie and came home and planted flowers. Today, we went to sunday school and then left early to meet my mom and dad in Springfield to eat a wonderful lunch at this Italian place called Gilardi's. It was so good! Then we shopped a bit and bought Jillian her first clothes! I am sending a care package with a sweet family who is going on the 22nd. They have agreed to take pictures too. Another girl is going to take pictures for us too this week! I am so excited to see more pictures of our beautiful baby girl. I can't get her out of my head and I'm so glad! I am praying for quick word of our court date and that we pass the first time. I am also praying that Jillian stays healthy, there are a lot of things that go around in an orphanage; chicken pox, colds, etc.... and babies seem to catch everything. I am hoping that God will put his hedge of protection around her and all of the babies there.
I have been in a blur since "referral day", Thursday. Our friends, The Belote's also got their referral the SAME day! What a blessing! I am really hoping we get to travel at the same time. Our girls will always know each other- how neat!!! Happy Mother's Day to all of the great mother's out there- it really is such a blessing. I heard something on the radio the other morning about mothers; that mothers are childrens first experience of what Jesus' love is like- that makes me feel a little inadequate, because what big shoes we have to fill! I liked it though- how near and dear to God's heart we are. He made US mother's!!! I'm so grateful to him for that! This has been the best Mother's day ever! Next year will be even better, because we will get to spend it with Jillian! Also, got the best surprise this morning, Isabelle created the most beautiful picture of our family of five- I am going to try to scan it and put it on here soon!

Yesterday there was a hole in my heart, today it was FILLED!!! What a wonderful day- here is how it played out......
We got home from preschool about 1:30 this afternoon and Harrison had fallen asleep and was on the couch so I decided to sit down for a little bit and I was praying and I dozed off.....then...... the phone rings around 2:03ish- and it said (703) area code and I KNEW:----- I answered and Caitlin asked if Craig was here and I said no, he was at work and then she conferenced him in; then the tears started flowing, because I KNEW! Caitlin said that this was our referral call and told us of our sweet, sweet baby girl...... almost 3 months old...... So now, we wait for news of our court date- 4-6 weeks from now and we will go to Ethiopia to appear in court. If we pass court the first time, lets pray we do- many do not..... then in 4-12 weeks from passing court, my dad and I will go back to bring her home...... Oh my, what a day...... I can't post pictures until we pass court and then I will have them every where! The kids are pumped and in love too- I am hoping they really understand that "she" is Jillian- the same Jillian we have been praying for, for so long! Now, I would love to ask prayer for her continued health and for quick and easy court date and travel..... We are so thankful for every prayer lifted up for Jillian and our family. WE are so thankful for the blessings God continues to pour down on us..... God really is so Good!! My heart could overflow at any moment; and to top it all off: just got a phone call from my bff in Kazahkstan on her mission trip- got to share the good news with her too! What a great day!

One year ago this Saturday we attended a seminar about adoption in Ozark that was put on by our agency, America World. We felt like our decision to adopt was confirmed after leaving the seminar. The following Monday, the 11th of May, 2009 we mailed off our application to adopt a baby girl from Ethiopia! We then received our acceptance call from them on May 27th.
It's been a year!!! Can't believe that! We are SO ready for our referral call! Mother's Day is near- that would be a nice surprise! My birthday is in a couple of weeks- another great opportunity- is it really too much to ask? I dream of those big brown eyes every day! Can't wait to know all of the details that God already has all worked out, it's so exciting!

Miracle Monday

Today on our local Christian radio station, Spirit FM, they were having their annual Miracle Monday. This is when you call in if you have a prayer request and they have different employees and prayer warriors answering and listening and then praying for your request with you. I haven't ever called in before, but this morning while I was getting ready I felt a nudge.... so I called in- a guy named Matt answered and we started chatting about my request; which is our adoption- he asked me where we were adopting from and I told him- Ethiopia..... here is the God thing- he told me he has been there three times and absolutely got so happy to listen to our process. He said he loves the people of this country! I know some people might not understand or see it- but this is what I got out of this- I have always known God was a huge part of our deciding to adopt and the process, but I actually felt the Holy Spirit while I was on the phone with Matt today, telling me that God has this all under control and that he is "all over it"! Nothing like this has ever happened to me before! Matt prayed for a "quickening" and for revelation in every step of this process for us! I still can't hardly stand it, the waiting- but it helps to remember that somebody is holding my hand every step of the way!!! On another note: On the way home from taking my daughter to school today, my 4 year old son says, "Mom, do you think the moon and sun are friends?" So sweet! I love the little details of our day like that!

This week the waiting has been hard! I never thought I could be sort of paralyzed- just sitting around waiting for the phone to ring..... but that is really what it is like! I just CAN'T wait for that phone call! I figure that April is pretty much done for referrals- that we will hopefully be in May- which would be great- Mother's day and my birthday are both in May- a referral would be a great gift! I feel so many things right now; anxiety, excitement, happiness, just to name a few..... My Dad has been getting prepared to make the second trip with me to bring her home- he got his first round of shots this week. Craig and I will go the first trip for court hopefully 4-6 weeks or so after we get our referral. Then the US Embassy does an investigation on our child's case and then they will tell us when we can have an embassy appt., this is when we can bring her home- that should be 6-12 weeks after we pass court- approx..... all of these times could be different... it's so hard to say- its different for every child's case. Just.... so..... ready!!! Keep us in your prayers; the waiting is so tough! BY the way: I don't really sit around waiting for the phone to ring literally.... trying to stay busy: planting flowers and a few veggies- stuff for homemade salsa, and Isabelle wanted to plant carrots and Harrison chose pumpkins (which will be planted on my parents farm). Craig built me a little patio out of cobblestone; a place in the shade to watch the kids play-, lots of yard work, lots of end of year stuff at the preschool, and last but not least, something I have always wanted to do: GO SEE JIMMY BUFFETT IN CONCERT!!!! So excited, tomorrow night in St. Louis! YAY!

We are now 2nd in line for our referral for our baby girl!!! Of course, I must say the list is unofficial, so the possibility of a "mystery" family being front of us is still there- the reality is: we are getting closer! I was so happy when I saw that baby girl referral in my email yesterday- that means, only one family in front of us- and it is so much fun to see families we have grown closer to receive their referrals too! I really, really, really want our referral! It is pretty much all I can think about lately. It's getting harder, the closer we get. I am very worried that we might not pass court before Ethiopian courts close in August for 6 or so weeks- that would really put a kink in things! I know our whole adoption is orchestrated by God's own hands, that is the only thing that gives me peace.... I just can't wait to see her face, know her birthday, know where she is from in Ethiopia, etc.... all of the little, tiny details a mother wants to know! Second!!!!

Glasses

Harrison went to the Eye Doc. today, for our concern about a lazy eye once in a while. Turns out he is really far sighted and his right eye is pretty bad. He has to get glasses. I am bummed about it.... he is only 4! Worried Momma doesn't want people to make fun of him or stereotype him. I know, things could be worse. I just want to protect him and I am kind of wondering at this point how I am going to get him to wear them all the time- he's not to keen on the idea..... I'm sure a little bribery might help. On the other hand, I am thankful for his beautiful brown eyes that smile when he smiles, and at least he can see!

We had a great message today at church. It was all about letting the things that hide our Joy as Christian's fall away, so that our joy shines through. Part of the message had us looking at what brought us joy- that is easy for me; My children! I can't imagine life without them, they are such a blessing! There are times that I think I am going a little crazy, but all in all- I thank God every day for them. When you need to find joy, just look in the eyes of a child!
Later this afternoon, I was sitting outside watching my kids with our cute little neighbor girl, on the trampoline with a hose spraying water all over the trampoline and the kids! Now, THAT was pure Joy- hearing their squealing and laughing! Think about what brings you JOY and let the other stuff "go"......

Easter

Wow- A lot has been going on! We had a great Easter Sunday! So glad to finally see some referrals from our agency; maybe it will be our turn soon! I have been battling major back and nerve trouble for going on three weeks now- ready for some relief. It kind of makes it hard to do anything else. I think it was brought on by stress and worry- which caused all of my muscles to totally tense up and cause a pinched nerve and back spasms... or maybe I am just getting "older".

Our agency also contacted us about the policy that was "on hold", after May 9, the policy goes back into effect- both parents will have to travel to be in court. So it looks like that is how it will be for us. I am also getting concerned that we pass court before court closes in August. Please pray for that specifically. We really want to bring our baby home as soon as we can.

I am learning a lot about "support" through this experience. Sometimes encouragement comes from places we would least expect it, and not from where we would normally find it. I have been discouraged from some peoples response to our adoption, because we feel so passionate about it. I can't help but feel like there are some people around us that just aren't interested. I understand how "orphans" isn't everyone's "thing", but loving all of the children in your life should be!

Summer ball practice is getting ready to start for both kids! Can't wait- we will stay super busy, so maybe waiting won't be so hard...... but who am I kidding! Ha! Exciting times- We have officially been "Dossier to Ethiopia" for 7 months now- and the official wait is 8-11 months, we are getting closer. I still feel like it will never happen. So ready to see her face! Please keep praying for us!

It's the little things that mean the most; my friend Paula, recently went to Destin, Fl on a trip and one of my favorite places is there, The Donut Hole. They have the world's best cream horns; they make a chocolate one that is just sheer perfection! She brought me one!!! I couldn't believe it! It was such a nice surprise!!! I appreciated it so much- it's the little blessings in life that mean so much! I needed it this week; all last week I have been down in my back- I finally went to the dr. on monday; he said it was a muscle spasm- so I now have some strong drugs that seem to be working! There were finally some referrals for the month of March posted on our agencies blog, 3 baby girl referrals, but we don't know who they went to; they were "mystery" families- So I remain anxious, wondering when we will get our referral, if we will end up having to go twice, wondering if it will all happen before court closures in August..... lots to pray about- so if you are reading this and feel like it, please pray for our little baby, far far away- and all of the logistics!

Well, we received another email from our agency today saying that the requirement for both parents to travel to Ethiopia for court was being put on hold at this time....... So..... we are just waiting for some referrals. No referrals all of February and March so far.... I am trying to remember- All in God's good time!!!
We are back to just making one trip to pick Jillian up after we get a referral, pass court and wait for the embassy to get ready to issue her a Visa to come to the U.S. Lots of steps have to be made to accomplish this.... none of which can happen without the first..... A REFERRAL! I'm not at all anxious.

We just got back from our trip; I should feel rested and rejuvenated, but somehow I don't. I find it hard to relax these days- I totally think it has to do with awaiting our referral. We had a great time, but I must admit it was wonderful returning to my memory foam bed!!! I stole a quote from a blog I read that really hit home:

I spent an hour on the phone today on a conference call with our agency with lots of other families, listening the entire time. I got off of the phone feeling a little frustrated, because I know there were many questions that were not answered. I did find out a few more details about how the first trip to appear in court would play out, but that is about it. The anxiety I have felt over the past few months about leaving our kids here and who to leave them with, is becoming less; I think it has to do with the news that we got yesterday. I am realizing that no matter how much I plan it out in my head, that it's going to happen the way God wants it to happen..... so why worry? I spend a lot of time analyzing and worrying- about most important things in my life. But I feel some peace about this, which is an answer to prayer. For that I am thankful! I can see the pro's and con's of making a second trip- the most important, we will get to meet our daughter sooner! Praise the Lord!
That is really all I care about right now- so Bring on the Referrals!!!
I guess it's a good way to go into spring break- leave tomorrow to put our feet in the sand for a few days- and enjoy each other. We don't have many plans besides swimming and bike riding around Sanibel Island. I kind of like that- will keep you posted! By the way, I am going to take the laptop, just in case we get a referral......

TWO Trips!!!

We received an email from our agency, AWAA today. It stated that starting today- when someone gets their referral that they would need to prepare to travel from 4-8 weeks for the appearance of both prospective adoptive parents in Ethiopian court. This trip will be 5-7 days. After you pass court, then you would plan to travel again 8-12 weeks later, approximately, after the U.S. Embassy investigates the individual case. We both have to travel the first time, but only one parent has to travel the second trip. We will find more out tomorrow during our conference call. Right now, it's a lot to take in, because it's so different than how it has been up until now. I am glad we will probably get to meet Jillian on the first trip, but it breaks my heart to think we have to leave her there. I do know, God has a plan and he is in control and it is the perfect plan-so we are being flexible! I will add more after our call tomorrow! Maybe now there will be a outpouring of referrals (including ours).

It's a busy time- we have a lot to look forward to: Spring, Longer days, Spring Break, Conference call on Thursday from our agency (hopefully they have lots of good news to tell us), and on and on, hopefully eventually a referral, the ultimate thing we are looking forward to! Right now it seems like its never going to happen.... I know it will, there is just still nothing going on with our agency regarding referrals in general.
I have been thinking a lot about obedience lately- what I am realizing is that we have a choice- to be or not to be..... obedient, that is- you can listen to yourself or you can listen to God! I am noticing that it is part of the "human condition" to listen to yourself, to hear what you want to hear- but being obedient is listening to what God is saying. He uses the Holy Spirit all the time, and through our "busy" lives, its easy not to "hear" it...... I am trying to "hear" and "listen" and obey. Also, we have to have our mind and heart open to what God is saying, at all times....... be flexible!
On another note; a few weeks ago I came across some super cheap airline tickets straight to the sand and surf of Florida- So........ thought we better take this last chance before things get REAL busy after we get our referral. So Spring Break, here we come...... so excited and so much to look forward to! We are going to a quaint little place near Ft. Myers called Sanibel Island...known for shelling! Can't wait! We will post pictures. Hopefully we can enjoy some time off and spend some quality time together.... and relax!

I am so glad March is here!!! So many good things happen in March; Spring starts, Daylight Savings Time starts, SPRING BREAK happens!!! Hopefully this month we will see LOTS of referrals- who know what could happen this month!!!
We had a great, busy weekend! We went to a gathering of lots of families, most who have adopted Ethiopian children who live in the greater Springfield area! It was so fun and I was touched by how awesome all of these kids are! They are all so beautiful! I am so glad we have a group to be a part of, that when Jillian comes home she will be able to see and know other families just like ours!! We got to meet some of the blog kids I follow, the gorgeous "world famous" Ari and his great parents and we got to spend some time with our friends, the Belote's, who are right in front of us in line! We even got to see Belen, our friend Cassie's little girl- it was just a fun day!

Frustrated

First of all, let me say that I DO know that everything happens in GOD'S time. I believe this. There have not been any referrals in the month of February. There is one working day left. I am discouraged because it seems like things are dragging. I am also frustrated because the talk in the chat group is that after you pass court, families are going to have to wait up to 8 weeks to travel to Ethiopia to pick up their children. So it could take up to 4 months after referral to get Jillian and bring her home. That is frustrating! Which makes me do math in my head and start worrying about court closures in August and September and worrying about Isabelle being back in school and where she would stay- I know, I know, cross that bridge....... well, I'm a planner- can't help it! So, I am a little discouraged and frustrated.... I am not the only one.... So if you are reading this- add us to your prayer list and all of the families currently waiting! Thank you- it is reallly greatly appreciated!

Cooped up!

I thought I would post a few pictures of the past few days- I think we are all getting tired of being cooped up- I am running out of things to organize, believe it or not! The kids made us a "gourmet" meal for Valentine's Day and we put together the crib for sweet baby #3!!! I told Craig, we are definetly getting our money's worth out of that crib! When we bought it before Isabelle was born it just about killed us to spend so much on a crib - I said, "I will keep it forever!"
Anyway, the offices for our agency have been closed due to so much snow in the D.C. area- so today was there first real day back open- maybe something will happen now- for at least somebody! I am just so ready! I joke that I am giving up Winter for Lent- but really I will gladly give her up! I don't think I have ever been more ready for Spring! I do love every season, but we haven't had a Winter quite like this for a while!
We did have a little scare today- our 10 year old Dachshund, Copper- went missing for about 3 hours- I couldn't find him anywhere! He NEVER does that- I searched everywhere in our neighborhood, thinking I would find him, I never did. When I came home from picking Isabelle up from dance class- he was back in the garage- with something stuck in his mouth. Do you know how hard it is to pry something out of a skinny long nosed dog's mouth? I think he was over at a neighbors digging in there trash, must have found some food- I finally got it out, he was going crazy trying to get it out. I think it was some kind of wrapping for a meat package or something. I hope he doesn't get sick tonight. At least he was ok!

Circle Hugs

Since we are approaching Valentine's Day I thought I would explain a heartwarming ritual in our family that I love! It just warms my heart thinking about it. My kids will ask for a circle hug, usually at night before going to bed- It looks like this: The four of us, with our heads real close and our arms around each others backs(in a circle) and you start with a hug and then Harrison will kiss my cheek, I will kiss Isabelle's cheek, Isabelle will kiss Craig's cheek and Craig will kiss Harrison's cheek- this goes on around the circle a couple of times until giggling ensues- It is the sweetest thing! I LOVE IT! There is no place I would rather be in the whole world!!!
I also want to brag on the heart of my daughter: Her first grade teacher wrote me an email yesterday, telling me that they had read a story about a girl who was looking for something beautiful in a not so beautiful world. She defined beautiful as something that made her heart happy. Then Mrs. Sing asked the class to write about something that made their hearts happy- My beautiful girl wrote that her baby sister would have a laugh that would make her heart happy! Her teacher said that she talks about Jillian or Ethiopia every day and that her love for her was evident, even though we have never even met her yet! She gets it! I am so proud of her! I do wonder if a 7 year old little girl can "get it", then why can't more adults "get it"- This is affecting more than just a person or two- it spreads- what a blessing! This makes my heart smile! What a Valentine!!!

January Update

Our agency, AWAA, just posted their stats for January. They had 17 REFERRALS!!!! 3 of which were infant girl referrals! That may not mean anything to you- but it means ALOT for us! You see, we are 3rd on the unofficial list- Yes, it is still unofficial which just means there very well may be a family or two or three that we don't know about, that do not take an active part of our agencies yahoo chat group. This is the group that keeps the "unofficial" list that I refer to. Anyway, in the next few months we are "likely" to get our referral! My fellow adoption friends, The Booy's are #1 on the list and The Belotes are #2! We three, keep in touch and are cheering each other on! It's actually helping the time go by, connecting and keeping track of the progress! I am thankful for these families, hoping we will be friends from now on because of bonding through this process! Thanks God for crossing our paths! Things are bound to get pretty interesting this month and next- I can't wait to see what happens! Our daughter, Isabelle was asking last night about Jillian's mom- and why she would have to give her up- My husband took that one and then they prayed for her family in Ethiopia and the decision that they would have to make- I think it really hit my husband as to how hard it would be to give up your flesh and blood- he said he wanted to write a letter to Jillian's Birth Mother- We might actually get to meet her if it were under the right circumstances...... what an opportunity! So many what ifs..... I can't wait to know what OUR cicumstance is-I pray daily that our little girl has The Lord's loving arms wrapped around her, protecting her from hunger, the weather, trauma- She has probably been born and maybe even given up by now- she may be in the orphanage just waiting to be referred to us- only GOD knows for sure! It's such an exciting adventure!!!

Weekend

Yesterday we had a good time playing in the snow! Last night, I got together with my girlfriends to celebrate Shelly's birthday! My friend Shelly is so sweet talented- I had given her Jillian's stocking to transform from a blond caucasian girl into a darker skinned Ethiopian girl- which she did beautifully! We may have to darken her up a little bit, but we will wait and see! So when I got home I went in to check on Harrison and he had thrown up in his bed and didn't wake up.... So I moved him to our bed in which he proceded to puke on me and our bed! Then onto the dry clean only bed skirt- So into the bath at 1:00AM he went and then the diarrhea started.......and it continues on with a fever- He says "Where's my pyark bowl?"- it's so cute how he says pyark. I feel bad for him- hopefully it will pass quickly! So Craig and Isabelle got up to go to church- our times are changing, we thought today was the first day of the new times, well they got there and it doesn't start until the 14th- so back home! So we are kind of off kilter today- maybe we won't do much else besides rest and play in the snow a little- well Craig and Isabelle at least....
I did do some organizing yesterday of Jillian's closet- it was a wreck- now its ready to hold Jillian's stuff, at least when we know who she is and how big she is. I also shoveled a WHOLE bunch of snow yesterday and pulled the kids and the neighbor girl on the sled- so I am sore today! I may need a nap!

Crazy Cats

These cats of ours act like they have never been fed before! They sit lurking at the window staring at the bird feeder with ears flattened! How do they know that they like birds? It is so funny!
On another note, the 6 inches of snow they forecast didn't arrive- just a teaser.
I also had a dream last night that we got our referral: I saw her face in my dream and her name was Martha Brown- isn't that funny! She was a little older and had a beautiful smile and eyes that smiled.... It came in an envelope and I just had to open it.... kind of strange. I guess I am just being hopeful!

Happy 4th Birthday Harrison and a sad heart

Our weekend started very busily last Friday night with celebrating Harrison's 4th birthday. My parents came over and Harrison got to pick where we went to eat, he picked Steak and Shake.... "because they have white shakes" (according to Harrison). Also on Friday, in our little town something horrible happened. A woman and her son were violently killed by the father as to what seems to be over money..... This woman happens to be one of my neighbors best friends. I watched people come and go all day, including highway patrolmen, protecting the little brother who was left behind in the house unharmed. It was the saddest thing. It still is. The father was later found dead, apparent suicide. Tomorrow are the mother and son's funerals, together. My heart is so sad. I can't understand.
One thing I read and that I am trying to focus on and remember is this: Heaven is real and Relationships are the only thing that matter here on Earth. We are supposed to be the hands of Jesus.... I can only hope that God wrapped his loving arms around that momma and her sweet little boy as they entered his gates....
It's hard not to think about what happened.

On Saturday, we went to Kansas City to have a long weekend.... I was glad to get away.
We started off spending the afternoon with some great friends! We had lunch and visited with Craig's roommate from Pharmacy school and his wife and their 3 kids. It was so good to catch up with them, we had a wonderful visit! Then we went down to The Plaza.
All the kids cared about was swimming.... which they did a lot of! Sunday, more swimming and some shopping- Birthday stop at Build-a-Bear of course. We also experienced Ethiopian food for the first time at The Blue Nile restaurant. Here's how it went: Harrison fell asleep and Isabelle started crying because she was afraid of trying something new- she ended up liking it! We had the Sampler Platter and they brought it out and there were no utensils! You use the Injera (Ethiopian National Bread) to scoop it up and eat it. It was all pretty good actually. Injera has a funny smell to it- It reminded me of a pancake that was kind of sour dough-y.
Monday, we messed around and came on home- Isabelle brought some Injera to take to school, she said only one person in her class liked it- hmmmmm we are going to have to work on them! Anyway, if you are reading this, add this family to your prayer list please- they need your prayers! Especially the little boy that was left behind.

As of yesterday, we are now THIRD in line for our daughter, UNofficially of course-
I feel like I need to DO something- like get her room ready or something. We had to wait until the first of the year to get Isabelle's furniture situation "situated" and then we can move her old dresser into Jillian's room and I can actually set some things up and decorate. I will post pictures when I do something- maybe that will make me feel like I am doing something!!!

wondering and waiting

My friends who have gone through this told me it would be hard..... to wait. I never knew HOW hard! Every beautiful face I see coming home from Ethiopia- makes me want to see Jillian's face even more- don't get me wrong, I am soooo happy for these families, it's just really hard, wondering how old, how big, her history, etc....

My little boy, the baby right now- will turn 4 years old on Monday! I remember when I was pregnant with him and they told me after my ultrasound that he was a boy--- I think I was in shock, my daughter, 3 at the time cried, because she wanted a sister, I just thought what in the world am I going to do with a boy!! Now, I can't imagine how boring life would be without that :smiling, funny, happy, caring little boy- who loves me sooo much! This weekend we are going to celebrate his birthday- Starting with a family party on Friday night and then we will take off to Kansas City for a long weekend- We are going to an authentic Ethiopian restaurant downtown and I am so excited to try it and see if my kids like it- I thought I might try some authentic recipes, maybe this will help me compare. We are going to stay on The Plaza, Craig and I love it there- and the hotel has an indoor pool for us to play! A little January getaway to maybe distract us from "wondering and waiting"- maybe it will help.

Some of my anxiety is over something I read on the America World blog- that the Tax Credit for when you finalize your adoption is going from 12,000 in 2010 to 5,000 for 2011- unless we can get the government to change that- write your representative!!! This is important, it could make the difference in whether or not a family decides to adopt! Needless to say, I am hoping and praying that we get finished in 2010 for sure!!! I wish I could

Clear Drains!

Ok- the good news: we can now flush all of our toilets! bad news: $192.50 later- a toothless plumber tells me not to flush certain things down the toilet! Yes- it is MY fault- not the freezing weather, or a child's toy- but me, the adult! Needless to say- I have learned my lesson and as I speak my sweet husband is sanitizing the bathrooms because they smelled like Mexico to me when I arrived home today! That's all I will say about that! Hopefully ever! We had a conference call today with AWAA: No big news, I was a little bummed..... looks like it could be at least 3 months after we get our referral before we can go get our daughter, that is IF we pass court the first time- which is not a sure thing. So- I will be happy if we get to go get her before school starts next year! That is a lot more waiting! I am so thankful there are other people experiencing the exact same thing- through our chat group with our agency! We can support each other and pray for each other and that is so reassuring!

The Big Thaw

Today it got above freezing! YAYYYY- School resumed! YAYYYY! We hopefully can get back in our routine now- well at least part of it- Only 3 out of our 4 toilets are "not working". We originally thought something was frozen- after today, I am beginning to wonder if we will need professional help for our problems! My husband is going to get the ole "snake" out tonight and see if he can fix it himself and if not- well, tomorrow I am calling the plumber! Oh, Winter- day upon day of family togetherness,why is it that whenever I go into another room, everyone follows? Am I really that popular? Needless to say I am jumping for joy over the forecast this week- above freezing EVERY day! That means outside time after school and a happier momma! Hopefully by midweek all of our toilets will work, too! Tomorrow we have a conference call with America World, our adoption agency- hopefully they will have a tidbit or two of interesting info- ready for some kind of action on the adoption front- at least an "on deck" or something for "baby girl waiters" 1-3 (we are #4)- anything would be great news-
This time of year is always hard for me- after Christmas/before Spring- I am totally "Seasonally Affected"- happens every time- My soul needs sunlight and warmth and nature- I think I really need to plan a trip towards the end of Jan. or Feb. sometime. I think my family would be much happier! That just may be a goal for next year/post adoption of course- For now I will just look forward to my toilets working!

Tuesday nights are our crazy night because Isabelle has Dance when I would normally cook dinner so we ran through Wendy's tonight.... when we got home, Harrison-age 3 was helping me carry the drinks in. He had gotten a junior sized Frosty- he said, "Awww, that's Jillian sized"- it was so cute! It means a lot to me that in his little 3 year old heart and mind, she is already real to him and to our family! Now, all we need is some action on the list! Come on referrals!

January Snow

Charlie Brown says that you have to wait until January for the really good snow- well, it's here! Woke up this morning and it has been snowing all day! You can still see certain blades of grass- but we probably have 3 inches or so- probably enough to cancel school for a few days, but they can't give you notice in advance! We had a good day- we got our kitchen chairs painted black- one big thing we can check off the "to do" list- and then this afternoon we all went sledding- first in the back yard and up the street behind our house until the neighbor dog wouldn't stop bothering us, so we decided to head to the park- there are some really good hills by the ball fields! It was so fun! Both kids stacked themselves onto Craig's back, like turtles. Harrison fell off the first time- I couldn't stop laughing! It was a lot of fun! One of the sled's the kids got for Christmas was called the "Snow Snake"! It was more like a rocket! We stayed until our faces were frozen and then we came home and had some hot cocoa! What a great day! Next, I asked Craig if he would pull me behind our vehicle down our street- we will see....... I think an adult should try it out first! I don't think that is legal- but it would be a fun ride! Happy Winter! I am trying to add pictures, but it won't let me. I will keep trying....

Only a few more days of 2009 to go.... I can't say I am sad to see it go- it was great, but I am so looking forward to 2010!!! I am trying to stay busy anticipating the new year and all that it will bring! We tried to play in the snow on Christmas Day- but it was only deep enough where it blew and drifted! We went Ice Skating- the kid's first time- Harrison only made it one time around with Dad and Isabelle and I had a ball! Then Isabelle decided to end the year with a new "do"- I love it! We are all ready to start fresh- Can't wait for January- although the lack of sunshine gets me down sometimes in the winter, I always claimed I have Seasonal Affective Disorder- there is bound to be some movement on "the list"- so we will see where that places us! We are going to move some furniture around and get Jillian's room ready! So to all who are reading this, Happy Year End to you! Can't wait to see what the NEW year will bring! Oh, yeah- we are definetly going somewhere warm next Christmas! Craig is working it into the budget starting in January! Cheers!!!

Christmas Time 2009

Such a busy time of year- A visit to Santa, Craig and the kids decorating the annual gingerbread house and Isabelle dancing in The Nutcracker with her Dance Class- This year was her 6th year to be in it- makes me so proud! I really do love this time of year- and to think it started with the birth of a little baby in a dirty stable! It's all about Love! We have a lot of fun in our family with some of the secular traditions, like the Elf on the Shelf and such- it's been fun to see where he will end up next! (Watching the behavior of everyone in the house, and reporting back to Santa at night)- but we will never stop focusing on the birth of Jesus, our Savior- who God sent for all of us to save us from our sins! So as we go about our cookie making and ham eating- we think about what God did for us- We could never have Easter without Christmas! So he gave us the ULTIMATE Gift! And for that we are so blessed! Thank you, GOD!!!! And to all who are reading this, Merry Christmas! And a Happy 2010! It's going to be a GREAT Year! We can't wait!!!

So we are finally in the "TOP TEN" on the list of people waiting for a referral with our agency, America World, through the Ethiopia program- This list is an "UNOFFICIAL" list- kept by our yahoo group, so there could be some "mystery" families out there- There are 5 families ahead of us waiting for a girl on the list- once again, there could be families out there that we don't know about- Regardless, it is a great feeling to be in the top ten!
There was another referral today and the month is young! Praying for more referrals, girl referrals and for those families waiting to pass court!

This is such a busy time of year! I love it! There are lights to be hung-
and lots of other things to keep us busy- but I can't help but spend many moments throughout every day thinking of a girl far away- hoping and praying that she is not cold or hungry or alone- or being traumatized in any way- I just really don't like waiting- I am ready a for our referral NOW! This week I have been following Tom Davis and his mission team in Ethiopia and he has posted lots of great pictures on his blog- (love his books) and the images he has posted are breathtaking- they are of all of these beautiful people- orphans in Ethiopia- who don't have anyone but each other- I just can't believe more people don't "get it"- that bothers me! Even people in my own family- think adoption or orphan care is for "someone else". We can all do SOMETHING!
If that wasn't enough, something came in the mail.... I found this doll in a JCPenney magazine- its a soft doll with a pink dress and a little soft brown face with a little pink smile- so we ordered two- one to send to our baby when we DO get a referral and one to keep here- my friend, Stacy told me I should sleep with it so it smells like me- well my kids won't let me have a turn- so I guess it will just smell like all of us! ha! I am so glad they want to take part!
On top of that- I heard this song by Third Day called Merry Christmas- you should look it up on itunes if you haven't heard it- it WILL make you cry. So it is hard for me this year- I am blessed, but I long to hold a little brown baby girl that may be born right now in a far away land- I know God has his arms wrapped around her though and will keep her safe until we can come get her. I start this post thinking a lot lately about how thankful I am for dear friends! Without my friends I couldn't make it- don't really have a lot of support from family sometimes and that makes me so appreciate all the advice and love and support I get from my true friends!
Thursday night I stayed up late to go see the second movie in the Twilight series, New Moon- it started at midnight! I didn't get to bed until 3AM- I realize I am no spring chicken any more! It was worth it, great movie! Then on Friday was the annual Cup of Cheer Homes Tour to raise funds for the Ronald McDonald House of the Ozarks- It's a handful of houses in the Springfield area all decked out for the Holidays! Totally gets me in the mood! My mom and I and a group of great girls go every year- this is our 6th year. Each year you get a different china tea cup to commemorate the day. It's so much fun, we shop and eat after we are finished- so that was yesterday and I didn't get home until midnight! Needless to say, I am wiped OUT! In Springfield, we visited the World Vision Africa Aids Experience Exhibit. You took on the identity of a child from Africa as you walked through a village as that child, and finding out you had HIV and how you dealt with that.... There was a prayer chapel with pictures of hundreds of people affected by AIDS in Africa and you could leave a prayer pinned up on the wall- it was very moving! Overall we had a great day!
I am starting to think about our Christmas card and what kind of picture to use- I found a great artist named Laura Kelley- below is a picture of my kids in her creations! I LOVE them! She is great to work with, too- I am already working on an order for a friend of mine with her own cutie from ET!
Last but not least, it is National Adoption Day- so Happy National Adoption Day! I am so thankful that we live in a Nation that allows us to adopt, domestically and internationally! I thank the Lord for that and for all of the children that have been and will be adopted! Praise the Lord!

We are now 6th!!!! on the UNofficial waiting list for a baby girl from Ethiopia with our agency, America World. There are so many families getting ready to go travel this month and next to pick up their kiddo's, it's going to be very exciting to see what happens in the next few months! There are so many things to be thankful for! Just wanted to let everyone know about the progress moving on up that list! Keep those referrals coming! On another great note, I get to watch a sweet baby girl from Ethiopia this Friday, for my friend, and I can't wait! I'll be getting my practice in- (and lots of hugs, too.) My neice turned 16 today!! She is having her "party" at our house this weekend, pictures are sure to come.... it ought to be interesting, when about 30 teenagers crash here on Sat. night!

Halloween Fun,Coffee Fundraising and Update.....

We survived another Halloween...... Since it fell on a Saturday this year- we had a busy evening! We started off trick-or-treating a few neighbors and then we headed to our first party. The kids and Dad's trick-or-treated some more and then came back. Then off to our other party! By the time we got home, Harrison was laying on the floor in the bathroom, too tired to crawl into the tub! Sugar Crash! Thankfully we gained an hour Saturday night! Sunday afternoon we headed to Houston, to my Mom's shop. My Dad took the kids to the farm while my Mom and I decorated for Christmas! Yes, I said it- Christmas! In retail, most of the Open Houses are the first weekend in Nov.- So we had to get it ready! Which is ok with me, because I LOVE CHRISTMAS! My mom has a shoe store and in the back we have a small business with gifts and all kinds of home decor- needless to say, Christmas is busy and lots of fun!
On to more important things: We are now UN-Officially 7TH IN LINE on the unofficial list. There are so many families with our agency getting ready to travel this month and next to go pick up their precious children! Which means, the Transitional Home will have lots of room for new kids!!! It's going to be a great New year, I just know it!

One more thing.... We have signed up with a company, JUST LOVE COFFEE- They sell Fair Trade Coffee and they give adopting families approx. 30% of the proceeds to go toward costs of their adoptions.
